Bonnie J. Uhlrich, 83, Tonganoxie, KS, passed away Monday, May 12, 2008 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence, KS.

 

A family graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 2008 at Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie, KS.  The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Quisenberry Funeral Home, 4th and Delaware, Tonganoxie, KS.

 

Bonnie was born February 22, 1925 in Williamstown, KS to John A. and Naomi (Ellis) Black.  From 1952-1955, she worked at the Hercules Ammunition Plant, DeSoto, KS.  She was a part owner of Uhlrich Mobil Oil Company for 27 years.  In 1963, she and her husband became foster parents and cared for over 100 children during a 23 year period.

 

Bonnie was a member of the United Methodist Church, La Sertoma Club and a volunteer at the Good Shepherd Thrift Shop, all in Tonganoxie, KS.  On June 27, 1941, she was united in marriage to Bernard F. Uhlrich in Jefferson County, KS.  He preceded her in death March 2003.  She was also preceded in death by two sons, Francis and James; a grandson, David; three brothers, Eugene, Clifford and Bill.  She has been a resident of Presbyterian Manor, Lawrence, KS, since January 2000. 

 

Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl Packard and husband, Chuck, Lawrence, KS; a daughter-in-law, Jane Uhlrich, Greenwood, MO; and three grandchildren, C. Ashley Packard, Angie Packard and Ben Uhlrich.
