Franklin Doyle VanDyke, 72, Kansas City, Kansas, formerly of Tonganoxie, passed away at his home on January 23, 2008.

 

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 26th, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Tonganoxie Christian Church, with visitation before from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie, Kansas.

 

Mr. VanDyke was born February 7, 1935 in Goodland, Kansas, the son of John and Lida (Harless) VanDyke.

 

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Norma L. VanDyke; son John R. [Rick] VanDyke and wife Paula of Sugar Land, Texas; son David W. VanDyke and wife Pam of Olathe Kansas; daughter Beverly J. VanDyke of Kansas City, Kansas; and daughter Brendia L. Falk and husband Dave of Meadows Place, Texas; grandson Eric C. VanDyke of Chicago, Illinois; grandson Corporal Brett M. VanDyke, of Olathe, Kansas currently on active duty with the United States Army in South Korea; and granddaughters Erica and Breanna VanDyke of Sugar Land, Texas. 

 

Other survivors include two sisters, Jeannette Sparks and her husband Bill of McLouth, Kansas and Faye Young and her husband Tom of Sun City Center, Florida; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, John VanDyke Jr.

 

Doyle was a long-time member of the Tonganoxie Christian Church.  Prior to retirement from Hallmark Cards in Leavenworth, Kansas in February 1996, he was employed by the Tonganoxie School District and was a Deputy with the Leavenworth County Sheriff Department.  Doyle volunteered as a leader with the Boy Scouts of America, and was a member of the Tonganoxie Volunteer Fire Department.

 

Doyle and Norma were members of the Good Sam’s Tiblow Camping Club for many years, and enjoyed camping and traveling in their motor home.  Doyle was an avid fisherman who enjoyed fishing and camping with his family and friends.
