Margaret “Maggi” Foster Newby, 78, Leavenworth, KS, died Saturday February 23, 2008 at Golden Living Center, Lansing, KS.
Maggi was born in Tulsa, OK on August 18, 1929 to Walter Lee and Pearl Boling Foster. She was the youngest of four children. The eldest sister Harriet, remained her dearest sibling in Tulsa. She went on to attend art school in Rockport, TX as well as being a graduate of Patricia Stevens School of Modeling.
She was very gifted as an artist in oil, acrylic, charcoal and ceramics. She was successful for many years in modeling and sales.
Maggi married and moved to Phoenix, AZ and had three children, Lynda, Karyn, and Kevin. In 1967 she became a single mother and fell back on her background to support the family by modeling, and selling several oil paintings. In 1970, she was employed by Capitol Detective Agency in Phoenix, as well as pursuing part-time work as a private detective.
Her family background of Christianity was a link to her becoming a born again Christian.
In 1983, she fell in love and married a very grounded born again Christian, William Newby and moved from Phoenix, AZ to Leavenworth, KS. She then became more grounded herself in following our Lord Jesus Christ. She had a long fulfilling marriage to Bill as well as becoming a part of his children’s lives.
Maggi pursued her painting in ceramics and was several times awarded for entries in county fairs and contests of such.
She always loved dogs, horses, kitties, and was a soft heart to ferals and strays. Maggi cherished her children and was always very proud to have accomplished through her struggles, getting them to adulthood, and to have shared her love of the living God Jesus Christ as well with Bill’s children, Lynda C. Spencer, Karyn “Kaney” Campbell, Kevin Campbell, Connie and Greg Waters, Dan and Tomi Newby, Tess Newby and John Russell, Lora and Matthew Drauszewski, Leslye and Scott Lauer and Charity Newby; she had 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5-6 p.m. Thursday February 28, 2008 at the McLouth Church of the Nazarene. The funeral will follow at 7 p.m. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday February 29, 2008 at Mount Washington Forever Cemetery, Independence, MO.
